Today, I am a dog — (Matthew 15:21-28)

Some days I am your child —

Skipping beside you, my tiny hand engulfed in your enormous, protective grasp.  Prattling on with the insignificant, yet mountainous details of my life.  Enjoying the tender safety of your comforting presence.

Oh,  Abba Father!

Some days I am a guilty tax collector —

Prostrate on the ground before you.  Bowing, pleading, beating myself.  Oh, Righteous Judge, I have sinned before you– AGAIN!    Cleanse me, heal me, forgive me.  Have mercy!

Oh, Dear Savior!

Some days I am a warrior–

In formation on the battlefield before you.  Marching confidently, with clanking armor, raised shield, and drawn sword, I come boldly to you.  I KNOW you are on my side, protecting me before and behind.  I am ready for the battle with you!

Oh, Almighty King!

Today, I am just a dog–

Slinking on the floor under your blessed table where you share the bread of life with your friends.   As my pitiful whine grates in the ears of your favored followers, they want you to shew me away.  Even you sit in silence.  But, I whine, I wail for my loved ones in the darkness at your feet. I won’t move.  Because I know, eventually the crumbs will fall from the table, and even a dog will be fed.

Oh, My Master!

Matthew 15:21-28

And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon.  And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.”  But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.”   He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.”  And he answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”  Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.

  1. This has helped lead me to a Prophetic Word for a friend’s daughter struggling with severe health issues.

    Blessings to you!
